Ok, so Game of Thrones and pocket watches may not go hand in hand BUT with the final season in full swing, we just love any excuse to talk about it. With many houses coming together for the final battle, we’re taking a look at some of our favourite watches that symbolise some of our favourite Game of Thrones families.
Whether you’re looking for a subtle way to show your love for the HBO show in your formalwear, or you’re looking for great Game of Thrones groomsman gifts for your upcoming wedding, these watches are perfect for fans of the show. Expect exceptional detail, beautiful designs and of course, hidden clues that show your loyalty to your favourite house.
Cast your mind back to season one of Game of Thrones and it was all about House Baratheon. Once the ruling family is Westeros, things went a bit pear-shaped as King Robert was killed by a boar and Stannis met his maker at the hands of Brienne of Tarth – although (at the time of writing) we’re still to see what happens with the last living son of King Robert, Gendry.
The Baratheon coat of arms is a black stag on a bright yellow background and we think this Woodford chrome double hunter pocket watch with stag design is perfect for those showing their loyalty to the house.
House Baratheon Engraving Ideas: It has to be the motto ‘Ours is the Fury”
House Targaryen ruled the Seven Kingdoms for 300 years, only defeated when Robert Baratheon and Ned Stark led a rebellion to depose King Aerys (The Mad King) who was slain by Jaime Lannister. The Targaryen house is now ruled by Daenerys and her two remaining dragons, but with secrets coming out in the final season – is this the time for a return to Targaryen rule?
The Targaryen coat of arms depicts, unsurprisingly, a red three-headed dragon on a black background. We couldn’t resist choosing this Woodford mechanical Welsh dragon double hunter pocket watch for those looking to pledge alligience to House Targaryen, the gold dragon against the knotwork pattern is very Game of Thrones and a great choice for a gift.
House Targaryen Engraving Ideas: Either the motto ‘Fire and Blood’ or a nod to our favourite characters on the screen ‘Dracarys’
The Lannisters may not be the most popular bunch at the moment but as the richest family in Westeros thanks to the goldmines located under their lands in the West, they definitely wield a lot of power. In the final season, we’re waiting to see just what Cersei Lannister has in store now that she has the golden company at her disposal – but is she going to get out of the final battle unscathed? Its Game of Thrones, so probably not. Let’s focus on the nicer members of the family for a moment, fan favourite Tyrion Lannister is currently serving as Hand of the King to Daenerys Targaryen. As the Lannister coat of arms is a gold lion on a red background, we think he would appreciate carrying a subtle reminder of his family in his pocket with this Woodford full Hunter rampant lion two-tone pocket watch.
House Lannister Engraving Ideas: The house motto ‘Hear Me Roar’ is a firm favourite with fans of the show, however, ‘A Lannister always pays his debts’ is also a great choice for those looking to show their allegiance.
Funnily enough, Direwolves are not the easiest things to find emblazoned on a pocket watch! As must as we would love to find a beautiful piece with Ghost depicted on the front, we’ve had to think outside the box with this one.
As the most beloved family on the show, the Starks have really been put through the mill! As the principal house in northern Westeros, the Starks helped conquer the Seven Kingdoms hack in the day and Ned Stark himself was made Warden of the North. After seven seasons of the remaining Starks finding their way back home and finding themselves along the way, they’re finally back in Winterfell to face their biggest battle yet. As the Night King makes his approach, we can only assume that the family will play a huge part in how this mammoth show will end, with that in mind – we think this beautiful Woodford Tree of Life skeleton pocket watch is a fitting tribute to House Stark.
Representing the different elements of the family, the Tree of Life can also be interpreted as the sacred Weirwood tree in Godswood, Winterfell.
House Stark Engraving Ideas: Along with the obvious ‘Winter is Coming’ we also love the idea of handing these pocket watches out at weddings with ‘The Pack Survives’ engraved on them.
